Photosynthesis is a process by which plants make their own food. They require carbon dioxide from air and water from the soil to make their food in the form of sugar. This process occurs in the presence of sunlight, and chlorophyll present in the plant’s leaf. The whole process takes place in the chloroplasts of the mesophyll cells of the leaf and get completed in two steps namely: capturing light energy and making sugars.

Learning objectives

After completing this module, you will be able to:
 - List the requirements for photosynthesis.
 - Describe how a plant meets the requirements of photosynthesis.
 - Mention the site of photosynthesis in the leaf cell.
